everything's the same, same as before.
the position; the gaze; the way their hand is placed on the table.
but there's a vase of flowers in between.
a clear-cut line, a gap between the tables.
sometimes the gap grows so huge that mending's useless.
other times it's like we can't see the gap.
i hate to think that it'll always be there but it will.

It's a little impossible to expect two to be as one. Look at it mathematically: two is not the smallest whole number: by definition it is two whole numbers. Scientifically: a compound can't ever become an element.
Just because you exist as a unique entity doesn't mean you're on your own.
